The story of Ram Navami begins with a cosmic crisis. The powerful demon king Ravana, protected by a boon of near-invincibility, had thrown the world into chaos. His tyranny disrupted the cosmic order, or *dharma*. This section explains the celestial plea that set the stage for Lord Vishnu's incarnation as Rama.
Granted immunity from gods and celestial beings, Ravana's arrogance grew unchecked. He tormented sages and conquered kingdoms, forcing the gods and Mother Earth to seek divine intervention.
In desperation, the celestial beings appealed to Lord Vishnu, the preserver. He promised to be born as a mortal man—the one being Ravana had overlooked in his quest for power—to restore balance.
On Earth, King Dasharatha of Ayodhya was childless. To seek an heir, he performed the sacred *Putrakameshti Yajna*, a fire sacrifice. This ritual was the earthly mechanism for the divine birth, culminating in a miraculous offering that led to the birth of Rama and his brothers.
